Climb On To Your Success
Starting today and for the next four weeks, I’ll be sending you an article with solid advice for your personal success in the next year, written by one of my co-speakers on the upcoming LeadHERship Cruise.
Today’s article is written by former CNN anchor and empowerment speaker, Sharon Frame and I’ve already written down the questions she has in here that we need to ask ourselves to ensure success. I’m thrilled to have them written out for me – makes it easier. I hope you’ll agree.
At the end of her article I’ve included some testimonials about Sharon. I know her and she’s a dynamite speaker!
Climb On To Your Success!
by Sharon Frame
At first glance indoor rock-climbing looks fun. It appeals to my desire to always push myself to try new, daring feats.
Sure, it’s not as adventurous or as dangerous as scaling Mount Everest. But it poses a thrilling challenge none the less.
I imagined myself repelling off the side of a tall building with great ease; you know, like Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible movie.
I was pumped! I was ready to jump into my harness and get busy climbing.
But then the climbing instructor stepped in, broke my stride and roped me back into reality.
You see, before setting foot on the rock wall, you must sit through a safety class.
There are firm rules that must be followed if you are to avoid injuring yourself or your climbing partner.
The phrase “climb on” is used only after you prove to the instructor that you understand the safety rules, and demonstrate the techniques on the ground first. Only then you get the green light.
You must know:
– How to properly buckle into your harness
– How to securely tie specialized knots on your rope and hitch it to your climbing belt
– How to use the various climbing devices like the belay, the twistlock caribiner
– How to maneuver your rope from the ground to secure your partner if he takes a fall from 30 feet up.
Once you have mastered the fundamentals, it doesn’t stop there. You must walk through a check list before your partner can say “climb on.”
It’s similar to mandatory safety checks pilots conduct before they fire up their engines and take off.
We too need to routinely conduct safety checks in our lives as we climb on to higher rungs of success.
What are the foundational things we must have in place to assure rock-solid achievements?
Ask yourself these questions:
Are my goals spelled out?
They are determined by your reason for climbing.
Do I have a well-defined plan of action?
That’s the firm grip you must have on the rope that’ll repel you closer to your dreams.
How strong is my harness?
That’s your faith in God and personal determination that cushion you when you feel like falling.
Do I have a reliable climbing partner?
That’s someone who you can count on to be loving, supportive yet honest and willing to hold you accountable.
Yes, climbing can be fun, adventurous and strenuous.
So is pursuing your dreams. You must count the cost.
How much are you willing to invest in time and effort to accomplish your dream? How badly do you want it? And most importantly why do you want it? Those are some of the critical questions you must ask and answer.
Then create a system to review your daily, weekly and monthly goals and assess your progress. With every “Climb On” step you take you climb up higher and closer to achieving what you want. So now go to it. Climb on!
