Secrets of Mysterious Tibetan Rites Shared Here!
Monday, January 14th, 2013
I’m so glad you’re reading this because I want to spread the word about the incredible results you can get from practicing the mysterious Tibetan Rites. They’re supposed to make you grow younger – and they really work!
Known as The Five Tibetans, this series of physical movements was developed by Tibetan monks 2500 years ago and handed down from generation to generation only to the initiated. For over two millennia these Rites were kept secret in Himalayan monasteries because they were considered to be a path to higher consciousness for the monks, with side benefits of physical strength, vitality and youthfulness.
These simple movements are performed as a moving meditation to balance and harmonize seven invisible energy vortexes within the body. (These are NOT the seven chakras many of us are familiar with.) With these Rites we draw in greater amounts of life-sustaining energy through the spinning of the seven vortexes. Once your body’s energies flow freely through their channels and all seven vortexes are spinning at the same speed, your body can transform itself and maintain health and vitality for a much longer, healthier, younger life.
Before you begin any new exercise, please get your doctor’s permission. If you’ve never done the Five Tibetans, after you get your doctor’s okay, proceed slowly and carefully and do no ore than three of each the first week.
Watch this video to see me perform The Five Tibetans. Then on our LeadHERship cruise in April, I’ll share with you ways for beginners to get started as well as the breathing and tensing techniques if you’ve already been practicing.

It’s a MAGICAL year…
Sunday, January 13th, 2013
Dreams come true in 2013, or so I’ve been told.
Give yourself a keyword or words for this year and live that description. Mine is OUTRAGEOUS AND ON FIRE
So much good happens to us all year long and we often forget and focus only on the disappointments, so here’s a suggestion. I don’t know the source, but I’m grateful to whoever started it.
Get a large jar, label it with your name and keywords and put it on your kitchen counter.
Every time something good happens, write it on a small slip of paper and put it into the jar. At the end of the year, take them all out and read them.
I’ve already got several in there – some are major good things, like being hired to give two talks on “Bring On the Joy! Seven Ways to Beat the Blues” and some are delightful small good things, like it snowed today and we needed it.
Won’t you join me? Click to comment below and tell us your keyword(s) for 2013.
Love and Blessings,
Ellen
Climb On To Your Success
Monday, January 7th, 2013
Starting today and for the next four weeks, I’ll be sending you an article with solid advice for your personal success in the next year, written by one of my co-speakers on the upcoming LeadHERship Cruise.
Today’s article is written by former CNN anchor and empowerment speaker, Sharon Frame and I’ve already written down the questions she has in here that we need to ask ourselves to ensure success. I’m thrilled to have them written out for me – makes it easier. I hope you’ll agree.
At the end of her article I’ve included some testimonials about Sharon. I know her and she’s a dynamite speaker!
Climb On To Your Success!
by Sharon Frame
At first glance indoor rock-climbing looks fun. It appeals to my desire to always push myself to try new, daring feats.
Sure, it’s not as adventurous or as dangerous as scaling Mount Everest. But it poses a thrilling challenge none the less.
I imagined myself repelling off the side of a tall building with great ease; you know, like Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible movie.
I was pumped! I was ready to jump into my harness and get busy climbing.
But then the climbing instructor stepped in, broke my stride and roped me back into reality.
You see, before setting foot on the rock wall, you must sit through a safety class.
There are firm rules that must be followed if you are to avoid injuring yourself or your climbing partner.
The phrase “climb on” is used only after you prove to the instructor that you understand the safety rules, and demonstrate the techniques on the ground first. Only then you get the green light.
You must know:
– How to properly buckle into your harness
– How to securely tie specialized knots on your rope and hitch it to your climbing belt
– How to use the various climbing devices like the belay, the twistlock caribiner
– How to maneuver your rope from the ground to secure your partner if he takes a fall from 30 feet up.
Once you have mastered the fundamentals, it doesn’t stop there. You must walk through a check list before your partner can say “climb on.”
It’s similar to mandatory safety checks pilots conduct before they fire up their engines and take off.
We too need to routinely conduct safety checks in our lives as we climb on to higher rungs of success.
What are the foundational things we must have in place to assure rock-solid achievements?
Ask yourself these questions:
Are my goals spelled out?
They are determined by your reason for climbing.
Do I have a well-defined plan of action?
That’s the firm grip you must have on the rope that’ll repel you closer to your dreams.
How strong is my harness?
That’s your faith in God and personal determination that cushion you when you feel like falling.
Do I have a reliable climbing partner?
That’s someone who you can count on to be loving, supportive yet honest and willing to hold you accountable.
Yes, climbing can be fun, adventurous and strenuous.
So is pursuing your dreams. You must count the cost.
How much are you willing to invest in time and effort to accomplish your dream? How badly do you want it? And most importantly why do you want it? Those are some of the critical questions you must ask and answer.
Then create a system to review your daily, weekly and monthly goals and assess your progress. With every “Climb On” step you take you climb up higher and closer to achieving what you want. So now go to it. Climb on!

HOW you eat is as important as WHAT you eat
Sunday, November 11th, 2012
We all need nourishment in the form of food; we just don’t need as much of it as some of us eat. The one well-studied and proven technique you can do to turn back the clock is calorie restriction. That’s something that all the scientists and researchers who study anti-aging agree upon, based on the results of numerous studies.
Not starving yourself, not leaving the table still hungry – just stopping before you’re overfilled like a goose down pillow that’s so stuffed it’s no longer soft. One of the ways to eat a sufficient but not excessive amount of food is to take your time and chew thoroughly. By slowing down and chewing thoroughly you get more of the nutrients than if you gobble your food, and your stomach has a chance to realize that it’s had enough.
“Chew your food,” we scolded our kids when they were growing up, “don’t swallow it whole.” Of course, their friends were standing around waiting for them to finish eating so they gobbled it down just a tiny bit slower.
Ever see somebody inhale their food? They don’t even sit down to eat. They’re always in a hurry and so busy, eating seems like a chore they need to do to quell the hunger pangs and they just gulp their food.
Uh… I have to confess I was one of them, especially when I lived in New York City and worked on Madison Avenue. They had those “convenient” places where you could stand up at a counter and eat while watching people walk by the window.
But now that I’ve been living in Taos County and researching how important eating mindfully with thorough chewing is to good digestion and how vital good digestion is to good health and growing younger, I’ve changed my way of eating. And my digestion is very good.
There are 30 million people in the U.S. who suffer from digestive and colon problems and they could be greatly helped by paying attention not only to what they eat, but also how they eat.
Tips for improving your digestion or keeping it at optimum health
1. Pray before you eat. It reminds you to acknowledge your blessings and helps you pay attention to the process of eating. And gratitude is great for your health. Studies at HeartMath Institute, a global leader in research on the links among emotions, heart-brain communication and cognitive function, show that practicing the positive emotion of gratitude can actually improve your heart’s rhythmic functioning. Even a short prayer like my kids used to say works: “Rub-dub-dub. Thanks for the grub. Yay, God!” And if you don’t believe in God, then thank nature for providing you with the nourishment.
2. Chew, chew, chew your food until it is liquid. You might be eating healthy, organic foods but if you’re not chewing it thoroughly, you might get only 5% or 10% of the nutrients. And if you don’t absorb all the nutrients, you could be starving your cells. When Mahatma Ghandi said, “Chew your drink and drink your food,” he meant that digestion begins in your mouth. Your saliva has an enzyme called amylase and when that enzyme mixes with food or beverage, the chemical process of digestion begins. If you don’t chew your food thoroughly, the stomach acids have to work much harder to break down large chunks of food and this can cause stomach distress and mal-absorption of the nutrients.
3. Cut your food into small chunks and put your fork down between bites. This is something to practice in the beginning until thorough chewing becomes second nature.
4. Chew your juice or smoothie. Freshly-made juice or smoothie, whether you make it or buy it, is a powerful ingredient for good health. Swishing it in your mouth before swallowing, especially the first mouthful, maximizes the nutrients you absorb.
5. Be mindful when you eat. Practice being in the present moment. Just as chopping vegetables can be a meditation, so can eating if you totally focus on exactly what you’re doing at the moment. If your mind wanders, just gently bring it back.
6. Rest a few minutes after eating. This is so important for good digestion.
Okay, so after reading this, you’re going to chew your next meal thoroughly. But what happens two days from now when you forget about it? Right now I’m chewing cashews to liquid before swallowing but will my busyness take over tomorrow and will I forget to chew well? Aha. That’s where those little signs I’m always talking about come in. I’m going to print on an index card: CHEW, CHEW, CHEW, put it into a pinchie cardholder and place it on my dining table. That will be my reminder – it’s better than the old fashioned tying a string on my finger, which I don’t think anyone ever did anyway.
Joy and Blessings,
Ellen

Discover the potency of delicious, nourishing green smoothies
Friday, September 14th, 2012
Summer is almost gone but we can still get luscious, ripe, organic fruits and vegetables at a local farm, farmer’s market or health food store. In fact, most supermarkets now have an organic produce section as well. Here’s a mouth-watering, easy way to get a ton of nutrition from these fruits and veggies – and help you grow younger: make green smoothies.
I make them in my Vitamix but you can use any blender as long as it’s powerful – 1000 watts or more. Unlike a juicer, clean-up is easy with a blender, and you’re not throwing out the fiber that’s so good for you.
I put the greens – such as spinach, kale, chard, dandelion greens, arugula, bok choy, celery or mustard greens – plus about two or three cups of water and some fruit – into the blender and turn it on for 30 seconds or less. For optimal health, it’s best to drink a quart a day, but sometimes I drink one pint and put the other pint in the refrigerator for the next day. Then just fill the blender halfway with water, put a few drops of dish soap in, put the lid on and turn it on. In about 15 seconds your blender is clean. Just rinse it out.
Use only the greens, such as beet tops or carrot tops, not the whole vegetable, since all kinds of fruit mix well with greens, but not with vegetables. Bananas and apples are good in green smoothies and easy to have on hand since apples will keep in the fridge quite a while and bananas will keep in the freezer.
When I bring bananas home from the supermarket (they do not have to be organic), I separate each one from the bunch because they keep longer that way. I freeze those I don’t eat fresh. Once they’re close to going downhill into overripe, I peel each one, break it in half and put it into a snack baggie. Then I put all the little baggies into one big baggie and freeze them. As I use each banana in a smoothie, I put the used snack baggie into the big bag in the freezer for re-use next time I freeze bananas.
Don’t peel the apples (organic only) but do discard the seeds before putting them in the blender because apple seeds contain a chemical that releases cyanide into the body when ingested. (Not very harmful unless you eat a lot of them.) I also use mangos, pears, berries, peaches and any other kind of fruit in with the greens.
I recommend reading Green Smoothie Revolution: The Radical Leap Towards Natural Health by Victoria Boutenko, if you want inspiration and recipes for delicious, nutritious smoothies.
Here are a few points to remember, based on the information in her book:
1. Use only greens, fruit and water. Don’t add anything else like protein powder or nuts and supplements.
2. Your smoothie should not be part of a meal. Drink it by itself and don’t eat or drink anything else for forty minutes before or after your smoothie.
3. Never add starchy vegetables like carrots, zucchini, cabbage, peas, corn, green beans, etc. to your green smoothie since those don’t combine well with fruit (except apples.)
4. Rotate your greens. For example, use spinach one day, kale the next, chard the following day, and so on. You don’t need to rotate your fruits.
5. Make it delicious so you’ll look forward to drinking it.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, laugh a lot and drink plenty of green smoothies.
Sorry to give you bad news,” the insurance adjuster said.
Thursday, August 16th, 2012
“You’re not covered for surface water.”
I blurted out, “That’s not bad news; that’s tremendously disappointing news. Bad news is if one of my kids got hurt.”
I’m sharing this with you because this was a trying situation in which I applied one of my anti-aging action steps – choose how to respond – and it worked again! Here’s what happened: the day before yesterday, late in the afternoon, there was a gigantic hail storm at my house, with hail the size of mothballs. The noise was deafening and since I had never experienced anything like this before, I gleefully took photos. Meanwhile, downstairs where my bedrooms and office are, water was pouring in through a closed window and I didn’t discover it until there was an inch and a half of water covering all the floors. (Runoff from the mountain contributed to this.)
I put on rubber-soled shoes, waded into the water, shut down the circuit breakers and called 911 and some good friends who live nearby. Then I began bailing out while saying: “Something good will come of this,” over and over. Even though it’s not yet an ingrained habit, repeating that affirmation is how I choose to respond anytime I have a challenge. It keeps me from freaking out while I take appropriate action and there’s always something good that comes along if I stay open and allowing.
Three friends and two men from our fabulous volunteer fire department showed up and went to work with a shop vac and all my towels. Throughout the cleanup I continued saying, “Something good will come of this,” and kept my sense of humor, helped by the others and their can-do spirit. I just took it in my stride when one neighbor said, as I was helping move furniture around, “You’re strong and spry, and you’re no spring chicken.” Well… actually I huffed back, “I am SO a spring chicken.” He murmured, “Oh, right. Sorry.”
Well, the floors (just put in last October) are ruined but it could have been far worse. Thank God I hadn’t already left on my trip to England and France. (I leave today.) And thank God I had the presence of mind to turn off the circuit breakers. And thank God our neighborhood is loving and caring. And thank God our fire department responds so quickly. Our chief was just awarded “Fire Chief of the Year” for the whole country and no wonder!
I’m still saying, “Something good will come of this,” and staying open. I got an unexpected check in the mail today for $111.29, and we’ll see what else happens. Maybe someone wonderful and interesting will sit next to me on my flight to London.
If you find yourself with a challenge, say, “Something good will come of this.” Put it on an index card if that helps and remember what John Lennon said, “Life is what happens when you’re making other plans.” Yep. Or perhaps you’ll like what Mark Twain had to say even better: “Life is one damn thing after another.” Just keep in mind, no matter what happens, you can choose how you respond.
Joy and Blessings,
Ellen
P.S. Thank you for the beautiful, heartwarming emails after my dog died. I love you all.
Can you control how you age?
Saturday, August 4th, 2012
Think about that. If you believe you cannot control how you age, then what is controlling it?
Let’s put these questions on hold for a moment and allow for the possibility that you might have control over how you age. Perhaps this new information I’m going to share with you can shed light on the subject and influence your beliefs. It’s about a study conducted by Ellen Langer, a Professor of Psychology at Harvard University.
Just so you know how credible she is, let me point out that Langer has received many distinguished awards for her research over the past 30 years and is highly regarded in her field.
The research that’s of particular interest on this topic is one she’s dubbed her “counterclockwise” study. Langer designed this study to find out if turning back the clock psychologically could also turn it back physically. In other words, if we mentally become younger will our bodies also become younger?
To explore this provocative question, Langer enrolled a group of men in their 70s and 80s to participate. The men were divided into two groups and each group was taken by bus to live for a week in a secluded location about two hours north of Boston. The year was 1979.
The first group arrived and stepped into a virtual time-warp – back into the 1950s. They were instructed to live as though they were actually in that time – with Life and Saturday Evening Post magazines from that era, a black-and-white TV and old movies that were new then. They listened to radio news from the ‘50s and discussed “current” events such as the launch of the first U.S. satellite, Castro’s victory ride into Havana, Nikita Khrushchev and the need for bomb shelters.
They also found themselves in a place that wasn’t adapted to their infirmities – no ramps or hand rails and they weren’t assisted with anything. Langer wanted them to be totally self-reliant during their stay. She insisted they carry their own suitcases, even if it meant scooting it along an inch at a time.
During that week, Langer and her team observed many changes in the participants. They were standing more erect, walking faster and some even decided they didn’t need their walking sticks.
After a week, they returned home and the second group of men arrived. These men, given a slightly different set of instructions, were told to simply spend the week remembering their experiences of the ‘50s and reminiscing.
During each week, on one evening the men sat by the radio, listening as Royal Orbit won the 1959 Preakness. For the second group it brought back a flood of memories; for the first group, it was a race being run for the first time.
None of the participants was told they were part of a study about aging. Before and after the experiment, both groups took a battery of cognitive and physical tests, and after just one week, the test results had changed significantly – for the better.
Langer points out in one of her published accounts of the counterclockwise study, “any positive results would be meaningful…old age is taken to be a one-way street to incapacitation.” However, she and her team were amazed by the changes evidenced in the tests. Both groups were stronger and more flexible. Height, weight, gait, posture, hearing, vision – even their performance on intelligence tests had improved. Their joints were more flexible, their shoulders wider, their fingers not only more agile, but longer and less gnarled by arthritis.
Perhaps the most remarkable finding was that the men in the first group – those who acted as if they were actually back in the ‘50s showed significantly more improvement. After spending a week pretending to be younger, they seemed to have bodies that actually were younger.
The physiological results provided evidence for a simple but invaluable fact: the aging process is indeed less fixed than most people think. In her words, the study showed conclusively “that opening our minds to what’s possible, instead of clinging to accepted notions about what’s not, can lead to better health at any age,” Langer concluded.
And to satisfy that part of your mind that still may be muttering some doubts, I’ll just share with you a part of what the American Psychological Association said in their citation to Dr. Langer when she received their Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology in the Public Interest. The award reads, in part, “…her pioneering work revealed the profound effects of increasing mindful behavior…and offers new hope to millions whose problems were previously seen as unalterable and inevitable. Ellen Langer has demonstrated repeatedly how our limits are of our own making.”
I’ll ask again, do you believe you can control how you age? It’s certainly worth considering.
Joy and Blessings,
Ellen
P.S. The tremendous outpouring of love and blessings in emails after the death of my dog was immeasurably heartwarming. Thank you.
Today was a sad day for me
Friday, July 27th, 2012
My dog died today.

Colitta was the only dog I ever had that was totally mine. Oh, we had a family dog when I was growing up and my kids had dogs but Colitta was MY companion and I was responsible for her welfare.
She was like my shadow – followed me around everywhere. Loved to ride in the car. Died on the vet’s table 7 years ago. She came to me when she was 8 years old and she left at 15.
I just wanted to share this with you, since so many of you feel like friends.
Love,
Ellen
